The Hill

So I started the weapons class out. Brad was a little late. So I ran with them doing some laps, then did some jumping jacks, push ups and sit ups. Then did some stretches, and warmup stuff. Then started doing some forms. A couple people putting much into the form. So I had one person demonstrate the form and pointed out some of the good things about the form.

Then Brad took over and I went through some bo staff forms. Then I worked with a liliana giving her part of her next form. I showed her the movements, then had her do them on a small wavemaster. I would push it over, when she did an axe strike. Then I had her that part of the form to different angles. Then I would throw a bag and have her hit it while she did the form. Then for the last thing I had her do it on a stacked mat.

Then Brad worked with me. He showed me part of my next bo staff form pronounced Tokomeany. It combines three of the other beginning parts of the bo staff form. Which is interesting. I did another of my upper staff forms.

Then it was time for empty hand class. I had the people line up and mediate, and collected the cards. Then I had them do six laps, some jumping jacks, situps and pushups. Then Jim took over and we did this thing where we jogged in place. Then when he said "down" we would do two pushups. If he said "up" we would do two jumping jacks.

The next thing we did this thing where we laid down in a line and the first person would jump over other people. Then the next person would go. We went across the room several times in this manner. Then everyone was in push up position, and we would crawl under everyone. Then get into a pushup position.

Then we climbed the ropes. I didn't get very far. But I tried.

Then we went and climbed the "hill". We did several forms, such as 1 pinion and Statue of the Crane. Then Jim D. had us do a ring of fire. I grabbed a corn cob and attacked with it. Then next time I grabbed a corn stock. I thought it provided some comic relief. Then we walked back in and bowed out.

a escrima stick exercise I did

Well, I had the class go around doing rolling the sticks. While they were doing that I put electrical tape on the wavemasters. Two diagonally, and one done. Should have put one across, but oh well next time.

Then I had the people do the 8 angles on the wavemasters. Then right and left handed. I also had them do two angles such as 1, and 2, then 3 and 4 then 5 and 6 then 7 and 8, each with the male and female footwork. Then I had them do each angle a number of times. Then half-mooning forward and backwards.

Then Brad wanted me to do escrima counts so I had them do a gauntlet. One person was having problems with 3 count. So I had them do in the air a few times. Then went back to the bags and did it on the bags. Then went back and had him do it slowly. Oh well, something to work on next time.

Then we went through bo staff forms. Bruce asked the people the name of the form. Me and Bruce went through our upper bo staff forms too, and while the lower belts were going through their sai forms.

Travis then had did some kicks on the wavemasters. Then we did like a front ball and a roundhouse. A low kick and a high kick. A kick and a couple of strikes. Then we did some stretches, and then we went for the powerful roundhouse kicks.

Then we played a game of musical wavemasters (kind of like musical chairs). I got two the last round, then got beat by a blue belt. Then we did some forms, just with our legs, then on our backs, then from a seated position. Then we helped two people who were going for their blackbelt test by attacking them anyway we wanted too.

more hansuki

So did weapons class, was a little late since I bought rank series tapes. So we did our highest forms, then we went through up too all the forms the blue belts had. Then they grabbed their sai's and I worked with Clayton. I put two wavemasters out and have him do a bo staff from under it. Then did the form with him, and emphasized getting lower in his horse stance. Then everyone else but me, Bruce and Brad, grabbed their escrima sticks. Me and Bruce grabbed out tonfa's and Brad worked with us on Matayoshi no Tonfa Ichi and Matayoshi no Tonfa Knee. It's alot simplier then I thought it is.

Then went too open-hand class. Started with a bunch of stretches, then did a bunch of laps. Did a series of punches and kicks. We did follow directions so we did 110 pushups broken up into sections in the class. After we were through the first overhead, first kempo, sideclub, and a few combinations in great detail. Then after class I Jim Schulenburg was there so I worked on Hansuki with Brad and Bruce.

Broken Staff

So we did a few laps, however with the lowest belt leading us out. Then we lined up by height. We then tapped each other on our belts, then on the shoulder. Then we got out a wavemaster and did some side strikes on it. I think part of the idea was to get some of the lower belts to use more power. However we didn't use the ends of the bo staff, such as a poke or hit it.

Then brad the wavemaster top at us. I went and did a scoop with my staff, well I changed angles on it and it broke. Well, it's a lesson learned. Then Brad had us half moon, then through hand bags at us one or two at a time. I managed to hit too at a time. Then I helped brad throw them. We alternated, he did high, I did low. He did low, I did high sort of thing. My first few didn't come up too good. For the last part of the class I worked with a orange belt and a white belt on the first bo staff form.

Then for the empty hand class we did seven laps of Brad's choice. Then we did some stretching. Next got into three equal rows and did some forms. We rotated the lines after we were done with the form.

Then we paired off and worked with a partner on Ju-jitsu's. I had forgotten a few of the lappel grabs. By I managed too remember them. So I gave one to Brandy who I was working with, with Jim D's permission.

obstacles

So in weapons class Brad placed some obstacles we had to run over. So we did some laps jumping over them. I thought I was going to tip them over but I didn't.

Then we went through the bo staff forms. We did a few forms. Then I worked with someone on the ko bo on his footwork. I watched him do his form, then I got out the foam feet and had him do it with the foam feet. Next worked with two people on a few bo staff forms with Bruce Burford.

Then next class we went through some stretches, then did some cardio. We ran alot of laps. Then we got out wavemasters and put out feet around them, then punched them. I learned that one should make a sound like hee-haw. It's a two sibal sound. Then we went into one overhead technique. Thing is kind of complicated because you go to the ground with it.

Then I worked with a brown belt. He's up for a promotion, so I went through five kata with him. Then I went through some of the sideclubs and overheads, and then kempos. Next week we'll probably work more.

So I went to weapons class and we started out with two laps above our heads and then some figure eights. Then we did our highest form, then our lowest form. Then I worked with the sai's form with one person. Helped him on a few things. Then worked on the kama form got a little more of that. I was kind of expecting something different but Brad said we are learning the basics.

Then for the empty hand class we started out with four laps. Then we did a whole bunch of pushups and other stuff to get us warmed up. Then Josh called out numbers and we were to do the combinations. Then I worked with three brown belts on four kata. One thing I had them do is do the form with their eyes closed.

little bit more Hansuki

So anyway we started out weapons class with two laps with our bo staffs over our heads. Then doing figure eights, then one right handed and one left handed figure eights. The we did pushups, situps, and jumping jacks. Me and Bruce worked on our bo staff forms, then we got out our sai's and went through our sai forms. We worked with other people who had sai's.

Then the next class we did alot of stretches, then did some cardio kicking drills. Then we broke off into groups and worked on stuff. I worked for a few minutes on Hansuki. Then I worked on 5 kata. Then the blackbelts went off and worked on Hansuki. Then they had more of it so I went off and worked on Hansuki by my self. Then two people came over and worked on it with me.

sparring with weapons

So I led the weapons class. I replaced some the bo staffs with other things, like a shovel, a foam noodle, a closet rod, and then switched the bo staffs after doing the form. Then we did one form under some mats stacked on top of some wavemasters. But it was with an escrima stick.

The next thing we did is spar with foam noodles, then switch, two too foam bats, then a foam bat and rubber knife, and then just a rubber knife. The thing is we didn't know when the person would switch call out switch.

Then we did empty hand class. The class ran around will i set up something. Then the class would go through and do kempos. Then combinations. Next we did some cardio kickboxing combinations. For the last part me made a beginning of a form.

Yoking and presenting the bo staff forms.

So I found out I and another person were leading the weapons class. So we did some laps. Then did some warmups. Then some stretch. A unique stretch I saw was took one's foot on the bo staff and lift one's leg up.

Then I got one person to watch the class doing some bo staff forms. First we had them do ko bo, then two other forms. They kind of changed how they were doing the form.

Then we had class break off and yoke the groups last bo staff form. Then we had each group demonstrate the form. Then me and Bruce did a form by switching where we were. Then I switched up the bo staff's for foam noodles, and other stuff. Then had them do there bo staff form with them.

Then Brad had us do our first bo staff form. Then we seperated into teams and the first team that got done one. Then we did another bo staff form.

Then in empty hand class we did a our bunch of laps. Then some stretch's. Josh lead the class and he had us do some partner stretches.

Then we worked on our overhead and sideclub defenses. One point Josh made is that, most of our overhead defenses one is closing there opponent off. With ten combination and twin tiger's however, one is opening one up and we worked on a hook foot technique or a using the knee.

We also worked on the deflect and go under the arm. One thing I learned is you can loop your arm through and that you'll only need one arm. Another thing, is one can do 26 combination with that one. Also confiscate the arm so too speak.

Then we also worked on the strike and figure 4 armbar. One thing I learned is that one should reshape the body BEFORE one tries taking the other person down. I think this the reason I have been having trouble with it.

yoking a form

So we started the weapons class out with three laps, pushups, situps, and jumping jacks. Then did some strikes in the air. Next we did some forms.

I worked with a blue-green belt on Choto Cyan. One thing I mentioned is the his blocks. Took out a bo staff, and demonstrated the attack he would defend against. I think he help him improve his form.

Then I worked with a yellow belt, and watched her do her form and when over some of the movements with her. Next I "yoked" the form, which is do the attack she is to defend against. I didn't do that attack fullspeed though. Although I think he helped her remember the form.

Then me and Brad worked on Matayoshi No Tonfa Knee. It needs work part of the problem is I dont' get alot of time to practice it. It's still new to me.

Next we did a little sparring with foam bats. The first so round we did where you could only do so many attacks. Then we did it where it was two on one.

Then we did empty hand class. We did about seven laps total. Then did stretching. Next we did a gauntlet with overheads, and sideclubs. Then we did a ring of hire and did that again.

We worked a little backwards rolls. Then we worked on knife techniques also, and I worked with a purple belt on an underhand knife technique and overhead knife defense technique.

For the last thing we cleaned up the studio. We all took a section and wiped down the mirrors. We also straightened the equipment.

incentive

So weapons class we started out with three laps with the bo staff's above our heads. Then we did some strikes, and pokes. Then we did the some forms.

Then me and Bruce got out our sai's because the rest of the class wanted to see how we would perform it. Then they thought it wasn't too a brown belt level so they had put a some mats up and had us do the form again to see who would get the reward. Then they decided we both should share in the reward. What the reward was getting to do the sai form under some mats held up by wavemasters. Well, atleast I got to practice some of my sai and tonfa stuff.

Then we did the open hand class. We did some laps in a figure eight. Then did some stretching.

Next we did the thing again where we would seperate into teams and each team would run over and attack the other team with different attacks. Then we did a gauntlet and called out combinations and knife techniques.

human knot

Okay, so we did the weapons class so we started out with a few laps with bo staffs above our heads. Then we did some more because someone's wasn't above there head. Well atleast it makes one stronger. Then we did some laps. Then did more half-mooning. We worked on me and Bruce's upper bo staff forms. Then I worked with Jim E. and Clayton on starting them on a new form.

With empth hand class, we started running out. Then we did some combinations. Then we did a human knot. Basically where people hold other peoples hands and try to untie themselves. We had some trouble with it. Then we did a thing where we made a bunch of hiding places. Then a Jim E. turned out the lights, and two people's goal was to go the other side of the Dojo, and back without getting hit. The other people's goal was to attack them as many times as possible. Then we did a ring of fire to finish off the class.
